The 10 Commandments of Bridal Attire (Part I)

  1. Know thyself and the dress will follow.
Know your shape, height and your colouring; and have some idea of silhouettes that suit you. The wrong silhouette can accentuate figure flaws, such as ample derriere or heavy midsection, causing you to feel awkward or unstylish.

  2. Not every runway trend is a “real way” trend.
One concept that is as elusive as the perfect creme brulee is chic, the most misunderstood word in fashion. We say to be chic is about choosing your clothes with thoughtfulness and discretion and then not thinking moment about them.

  3. You should be wearing the garment – it should not be wearing you.
Pinching shoes, a tight bodice, a scratchy crinoline or a constricting corset will make you cranky (and cranky brides don’t always exhibit exemplary manners!). Choose garments that transform you in gorgeous ways, not garments that require things your body body can’t deliver.
  4. Aim for private moments:
Silk undies, a cotton-lined bodice, shoes you can dance in, a dress that doesn’t feel like a heavy suit of armour. You will feel more relaxed, you will behave graciously and you will glow like a candle.
  5. Cleavage is one thing but Baywatch is another…
You want to glide, not bounce down the aisle. Also, think about dancing. Do you want to be one-eight of an inch away from nipple exposure? Make sure your gown can hold up to the task! Be flashy but not trashy.
